Another year, another Ad Astra, another sparkly Sunburst Award auction...

And I do mean sparkly.

For the second year in a row, Lesley Livingston and I sacrificed decorum for art. This year we were joined by author and Prize Girl Adrienne Kress. We were all perilously underfed, but managed to stay on our tippy heels for the duration of the auction. After that we changed into more reasonable attire and repaired to the bar, where we ate (finally) and chatted with other authors, and editors, and friends we only see once a year.

It ended up being a very late night for most of us. I had a fairly early panel the following morning, and nearly decided to give it a pass - but I'm very glad I didn't. A bracing discussion about what, if anything, has happened to high fantasy is apparently the perfect way to end a con.

The next Big Event will be World Fantasy in Saratoga, NY, this fall. Here's to more fun and friends (if less sparkliness) then.
